The Spoke Length Project

To get the most out of the calculator, please read the calculator help guide.

Every feature can be tested, even the DT hubs (although selecting a straight pull hub is not available in preview mode).

Preview mode

This is a fully functioning calculator, but limitted to the following wheel types:

• Normal : For standard J bend hubs.
• Groups of 4 : An example of how the calculator copes with a lacing pattern that requires two spoke lengths per side. Grouping by 4 is not common, working out spoke lengths and drawing them in CAD is difficult, but the calculator does it easily. If they ever become popular (custom carbon rims are available), then the calculator is future proof. View the drawing and change the G4 rim dimension.
• Eccentric : Many spoke lengths per side! Change the eccentric offset and see how the drawing and spoke length table changes.

All the other wheel types can be selected and you can explore all the help text associated with them, but the calculation is disabled.

Getting full access

Full access requires a wheelbuilding book purchased after June 2023.

The book is tightly integrated with the calculator and makes many references to it - not only for spoke lengths but for explaining wheel geometry and much more.
